The Garments of Aris
The textile industry is one of the largest and most complex in the world, and I am fully aware of its significant impact on the environment. From the production of raw materials to the disposal of textile products, every stage of a garment’s life cycle has considerable ecological implications. Understanding this issue, I decided to invest in materials that have the least environmental impact possible, transforming the way I manufacture and use textiles.
After extensive research, I created a collection using Ecoyarn, an innovative and sustainable fiber made from recycled PET plastic bottles. This process includes collecting, cleaning, shredding into flakes, melting, and transforming the bottles into fibers. These fibers are then spun to produce durable, high-quality textiles. The entire process takes place in Barcelona, minimizing the carbon footprint associated with transportation and supporting the local economy.
Additionally, the fabrics I use feature UPF 50 solar protection (Ultraviolet Protection Factor), which means only 2% of UV rays can penetrate the fabric, blocking 98% of them. This makes my textiles ideal for outdoor activities such as the beach, mountains, or sports, where sun protection is essential.
Benefits:
- Waste Reduction: Transforming plastic bottles into textiles, preventing their accumulation in landfills, and helping to clean the environment.
- Resource Conservation: Using significantly less water and energy compared to virgin fibers, contributing to the preservation of natural resources.
- Promotion of the Circular Economy: Ecoyarn allows me to promote material reuse, offering a sustainable alternative for the textile industry.
- Versatility and Functionality: This material combines sun protection and durability, making it perfect for garments designed for prolonged sun exposure, such as hiking or water sports.
My collection made with Ecoyarn represents my commitment to sustainability and innovation. It’s a solution that balances quality, functionality, and care for the environment and all who inhabit it.
